Nigerian Dwarf & Mini Nubian Goats for Sale in Lemoore, California

Hello and thank you for your interest in our wonderful herd of Miniature Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats. We have made this page to answer all of your questions about purchasing goats from us and to direct you to the other pages on the website that will give you the information you need to choose the perfect babies (or adults) for you. We get dozens of inquiries a week (sometimes dozens a day during peak kidding season) so this page helps us help you as efficiently as possible. Please read it over carefully and let us know if you have any additional questions. Thank you!
We are now taking deposits for our Fall 2022 season of Nigerian Dwarfs, which will start arriving in September, as well as our Spring 2023 season. We also still have a few Spring Mini Nubian kids available.

If you would like to reserve any kids or adult goats you may do so with a non-refundable PayPal Reservation Fee, after filling out the Goat Questionnaire.

Our Reservation Fees are as follows:
  • $300 for reservations made on does, bucks and wethers BEFORE they are born and weaned
  • 50% of the total purchase price for all weaned, juvenile, yearling and adult does and bucks

If you are interested in purchasing goats from us here's where to begin:

Goat Application
First we ask that you fill out our Goat Questionnaire so that we'll know exactly what you're looking for, as well as your experience level with goats. We put a lot of time, money and effort into raising healthy, high quality dairy goats and do our best to match them with the right families. This Goat Questionnaire is designed to help us match the perfect goats for you, to ensure our goats get great homes and to give us all the necessary contact info we will need for registration paperwork and record keeping.
No goat purchase can be made until this form has been filled out and no appointment to see the goats can be scheduled. No form, no goats, no exceptions!

Some people think they can bypass the system and purchase goats faster by calling us directly instead of filling out the form. This is not the case. Due to the high volume of inquiries we receive and our intense workload during kidding and whelping season we often don't have time to answer the phone or return calls. We usually answer inquiries late at night, by email, or by text when we get a moment between farm chores. And because filling out the Goat Questionnaire is Step One in making a purchase if you call and leave a message we will still direct you back to this page and the Goat Questionnaire.

It's not that we don't want to talk to serious buyers. We most certainly do and we understand that some people prefer to communicate by phone before making a purchase. The answers to most questions can be found on our website and we work very hard to keep our website up to date and accurate. Questions not covered on the website can usually be answered by text or email. However, if you feel you need to speak to us by phone before proceeding with a reservation then that can be arranged. First please fill out the Goat Questionnaire so that we’ll know exactly what you’re looking for. Then after we receive your completed form we can set up a time that will work for both of us to talk instead of playing an endless game of phone tag. Thank you for understanding.
Sales Policies
Occasionally people have trouble submitting the form. This is usually because required questions were skipped or the SUBMIT button wasn’t clicked. You have to answer every question with an asterisk (*) or the form won't upload to the system. If you think you submitted the form properly but you don’t hear back from us in a day or two please text us at 559-904-5193 or email us at kim@prancingponyfarm.com so we can figure out what the problem is. First check your spam folder as some peoples' email filters send the replies there. Barring extenuating circumstances we reply to every submitted form within 24 hours so if you filled everything out properly we should be able to find a record of it. Submissions go to our business email but we can check the Weebly website if we didn't receive your completed form. If we don't find a record of your submission we'll try to figure our the problem. If we did receive your submission but our reply to you got lost in cyberspace we can resend it to you and that usually works.

If you've tried everything and are unable to get the form to work you can download this PDF version below. You will need to print it, scan it back into your phone or computer and then email it to kim@prancingponyfarm.com.

Once we've received your completed questionnaire we will reply back and discuss what breed and gender of goats you are looking for. If you would like to reserve any babies we will send you a PayPal Invoice for non-refundable Reservation Fee. Please let us know the gender (bucks, does or wethers) and breed (Mini Nubian or Nigerian Dwarf) of the kids you want. Reservations are breed, species and gender specific and are filled in the order received, after any kids we choose to retain.

Please remember that Reservation Fees are non-refundable for any reason.

If you
decline the animals you reserved once they are offered to you then you will forfeit your deposit immediately and be taken off the reservation list. Breed and gender choices are NOT interchangeable and can’t be switched later so please choose wisely when making your reservation. Baby goat reservation fees cannot be applied to adult goats or to Maremma Sheepdog puppy or adult purchases.

Please read our Sales Policies before placing a reservation!

We have two options for reserving kids:

  •  Option 1 - Reserving kids before kidding season starts or before all kids have been born.
  • Option 2 - Waiting until all kids have been born and previously paid reservations have been filled.
With Option 1 you pay a non-refundable Reservation Fee of $300 for each kid that you want to reserve, specifying the breed and gender you want. We do not guarantee you’ll get your choice of color, eye color, generation or specific pairings. Your reservation is only for "a" baby doe, buck or wether of your chosen breed, as we have no control over what the does will have and we have a lot of reservations to fill. Your reservation fee will will not be refunded if you don’t like the available choices once your turn comes to pick, nor can it be transferred to a different breed or gender of goat or to a Maremma puppy. Also please note that Reservation Fees are one for one. If you reserve two goats and later decide you only want one goat you will forfeit your other deposit. We urge everyone to think carefully about what they want and choose this option if you want to ensure you get the goats of your chosen breed and gender but are flexible about color, eye color, genetics and other traits.

With Option 2 you will wait until everyone who has placed a reservation ahead of time has chosen their kids and then you choose the specific kids you like on the website, via their photos and tattoo numbers. Choose this option if you are very particular about things like specific colors, eye color or other traits. Please understand, however, that we will continue to take reservations while waiting for all of the kids to arrive and everyone to choose so there's a very strong possibility that the kids will all be sold out before you get a chance to choose, especially if you are wanting doelings. We highly recommend placing reservations ahead of time for does.

Choosing Your Babies (or Adult Goats)

As the kids are born first we will choose the ones we will be retaining. Please note that we breed first and foremost to improve our herd and we reserve the right to retain any kid that we feel will benefit our breeding program. We usually retain several does a year and occasionally a buck or two. We still have lots of nice babies to fill deposits but want to ensure everyone understands the choosing process before placing a reservation.

Once we’ve chosen our retained kids the remaining kids will be listed on the Kids for Sale page. Here you’ll see photos in sections by breed and gender of all the available kids. Under each photo you will see each kid's birthdate, their parents’ names and pick-up date. Click on the parents' names to see their individual pages with photos, pedigrees and other info.

We will offer the kids first to the people who made reservations, in the order that reservations were made. If you don't like the choices in the first batch then you're welcome to wait for a later group of kids but you risk not getting any kids of your chosen breed and gender if not enough are born in later batches. There will be no refunds of Reservation Fee since you declined the first kids that were offered to you.

Any kids not chosen by all of the customers who have pre-paid reservations then go up for sale to the public and can be reserved by new customers at this time. Simply tell us the tattoo numbers of the kids you want, after filling out the goat questionnaire, and we’ll send an invoice for the Reservation Fee.

Please note that if you made a reservation ahead of time we will email you when it's time for you to choose your kids. There are many people who are anxious to choose their babies so we ask that you be responsive and timely in communicating your choices with us. If we do not get a reply from you after three attempts to contact you, or is you take longer that 24 hours to make your choice once we do reach you then we will skip you and let the next people in line choose. If we do not hear back from you at all we will assume you are forfeiting your reservation so please respond to our emails if you want your babies.
The Adult Goats for Sale page has a similar layout with hyperlinks that take you to their individual pages where you'll find more photos, pedigrees and other info. The same links can be found on the Breeding Plan page. Adult reservations are specific to the individual goat and not transferable from one to another or to a kid or a Maremma Sheepdog.

Picking Up Your Kids

Please note that all kids have their scheduled pick-up date below their birthdate. Because we have a very large amount of babies being born all year round we need customers to pick up their kids in a timely manner. When you choose your babies please make a note of the ready date in your calendar. Any kids not picked up within 2 days of their ready date will be charged a daily board fee of $5 a day.

Exceptions are kids that are waiting to go home with a younger kid. We allow them to stay longer for no charge so the kids can go together, so long as they are not too far apart in age or ready dates. If your kid is ready on a weekday it can usually be picked up a few days early or later if a weekend works better for you.

We will send out an email a week or two before your goat's ready date, asking that you schedule your pick-up appointment. We have a lot of goats and puppies being picked up during kidding season so we need to pin down schedules ASAP. If we do not hear from you after three attempts to contact you then we will assume you do not want the goats and are forfeiting your Reservation Fee. We will cancel your reservation and put your goats up for sale.
Our prices are firm and we do not give multi goat discounts. We price our goats according to the considerable monetary investment we have invested in our herd, as well as our time and hard work. We feel our prices are fair and allow us to remain in business to contribute to the propegation of these wonderful animals and to continue to produce them for future generations.
We accept cash, credit or debit for reservations and final payments through either our PayPal Business account or Square. We do not accept checks.

Nigerian Dwarfs versus Mini Nubians - What's the Difference?

Our Nigerian Dwarfs are registered with ADGA and AGS. Our Mini Nubians are registered with MDGA but can be cross registered with TMGR. Doelings and bucklings come with registration applications, which you will fill out and submit to the appropriate registry. Wethers are not registered. Adult goats come with registration certificates.

Nigerian Dwarfs average 75 lbs and 17-23.5” at the withers. They are the size of a medium sized dog.
Mini Nubians average 100 lbs and 23-31” at the withers. They are the size of a large (not giant) dog.
Some individuals are smaller and some are larger. Males are generally a bit larger than females.

We occasionally get questions from people about African Pygmy goats, which we do NOT breed. Pygmies and Nigerians are the same size and both make good pets. Pygmies are meat goats so they are stockier and Nigerians are dairy goats and thus more refined. Pygmies come in only shades of black, grey and brown, whereas Nigerians come in a wide variety of colors and coat patterns. Pygmies only have brown eyes. Nigerians can have brown or blue eyes.

Important Information

Goats do not make good house pets. They are farm animals. They can NOT be housebroken and they are very messy animals. While they are very cute and entertaining they will make a terrible, stinky mess all over your house and get into everything. Please do not place a deposit on our goats if you are not allowed to have them where you live or if you do not have a suitable and safe (from predators) outdoor place to keep them. Deposits will not be refunded nor can goats be returned to us if Animal Control comes knocking at your door because you tried to sneak farm animals in the city. Goats are noisy and you will get caught!

All of our baby goats are disbudded. We do not make any exceptions. We do not sell goats with horns for their safety and well being as well as yours, your children's and your other animals'. Wethers are banded free of charge. Does and bucks are microchipped or tattooed for registration and Scrapie ID purposes and come with registration applications. Adult goats come with registration certificates unless being specifically sold without papers.

We manage our herd as holistically and naturally as possible, therefore we do not vaccinate our herd with the CDT vaccine. Instead we focus on excellent nutrition and proper management to keep our goats healthy. New owners can obtain the CDT vaccine at any feed store if they would like their goats vaccinated. We do not routinely deworm our goats as this can lead to dewormer resistance. We only deworm based on fecal results or clinical signs. We do give age-appropriate Cocciodosis prevention and treatment and we treat immediately with antibiotics and other necessary medications at any sign of Pneumonia or other illnesses.

New owners should be aware that goats are VERY susceptible to stress, including stess from weaning, rapid weather changes and going to a new home. Stress can cause goats to be more susceptible to illness, especially pneumonia and parasites. Stressed goats can get sick very quickly. Learn what to watch for and have a good small ruminant vet and/or medications on hand before bringing home your goats! See our website for more information and resources on goat health. You should find your veterinarian BEFORE you bring home your goats.

We dam raise most of our kids as it's healthier and more natural for them and their dams. We only bottle feed kids that can’t or won’t nurse, rejected kids or some kids from large litters. We handle the kids as much as possible to make them friendly but some goats are naturally shyer than others and with a large herd we simply can't handle all the kids as much as we would like. It’s your responsibility to tame your baby and we ask that you are patient with your new goat when you get them home. If they are shy at first they will come around in time if you are patient and kind to them. We highly encourage positive reinforcement training methods, including Clicker Training.
