Nigerian Dwarf & Mini Nubian Goats for Sale

Whether your goal is to own a productive farm or ranch, a self-sufficient homestead, or add unique and special pets to your life, we will help you achieve your dreams. Our commitment to excellence in our dairy goat breeding programs will start you on the right path, and our lifetime customer support will be there for you every step of the way as you continue the journey and ultimately reach your goals.

How to reserve a goat from us in 3 easy steps!

Step 1

Fill out our Goat Questionaire, which can be accessed by the button below. Be sure to answer all the required questions and hit SUBMIT.
Goat Questionnaire

Step 2

We will reply to your questionnaire by email within 24 hours. If you don't hear from us check your spam folder. If our reply isn't there you can text us at (559) 904-5193 or email at kim@prancingponyfarm.com and we will figure out what the issue is. In our reply will be the info on available goats. Once you've received our reply we will discuss what we have available and answer any questions you have.

Step 3

When your questions have all been answered and you are ready to make a reservation for a currently available or upcoming goat you can pay the $300 per goat non-refundable reservation fees below. Please select the correct breed and gender and how many of each you want.

Then we will guide you every step of the way through the process to get your new goat home!

Please follow these steps in this exact order.  The questionnaire gives us the information we need to help you find the best goats for you and to process your paperwork later.

Please do NOT pay any reservation fees until we have received your questionnaire and confirmed that the goats you want are still available since we may not have had a chance to mark them as sold if someone recently reserved them. Reservations are not valid unless the Goat Questionairre has been completed!

Reservation fees are non-refundable for any reason but they may be transferred to the next season.

Step 4 - Choosing Your Kids

As the kids are born first we will choose the ones we will be retaining. Please note that we breed first and foremost to improve our herd and we reserve the right to retain any kid that we feel will benefit our breeding program. We usually retain several does a year and occasionally a buck or two. We still have lots of nice babies to fill deposits but want to ensure everyone understands the choosing process before placing a reservation.

Once we’ve chosen our retained kids the remaining kids will be listed on the Kids for Sale page. Here you’ll see photos in sections by breed and gender of all the available kids. Under each photo you will see each kid's birthdate, their parents’ names and pick-up date. Click on the parents' names to see their individual pages with photos, pedigrees and other info.

We will offer the kids first to the people who made reservations, in the order that reservations were made, according to the phases outlined below. If you don't like the choices in the first batch then you're welcome to wait for a later group of kids but you risk not getting any kids of your chosen breed and gender if not enough are born in later batches. There will be no refunds of Reservation Fee since you declined the first kids that were offered to you.

Any kids not chosen by all of the customers who have pre-paid reservations then go up for sale to the public and can be reserved by new customers at this time. Simply tell us the tattoo numbers of the kids you want, after filling out the goat questionnaire, and then pay the Reservation Fee on our website.

Please note that if you made a reservation ahead of time we will email you when it's time for you to choose your kids. There are many people who are anxious to choose their babies so we ask that you be responsive and timely in communicating your choices with us. If we do not get a reply from you after three attempts to contact you, or is you take longer that 24 hours to make your choice once we do reach you then we will skip you and let the next people in line choose. If we do not hear back from you at all we will assume you are forfeiting your reservation so please respond to our emails if you want your babies.
Our Dairy Herd
The Adult Goats for Sale page has a similar layout with hyperlinks that take you to their individual pages where you'll find more photos, pedigrees and other info. The same links can be found on the Breeding Plan page.

Step 5 - Picking Up Your Kids

Please note that all kids have their scheduled pick-up date below their birthdate. Because we have a very large amount of babies being born all year round we need customers to pick up their kids in a timely manner. When you choose your babies please make a note of the ready date in your calendar. Any kids not picked up within 3 days of their ready date will be charged a daily board fee of $5 a day.

Exceptions are kids that are waiting to go home with a younger kid. We allow them to stay longer for no charge so the kids can go together, so long as they are not too far apart in age or ready dates. If your kid is ready on a weekday it can usually be picked up a few days early or later if a weekend works better for you.

We will send out an email a week or two before your goat's ready date, asking that you schedule your pick-up appointment. We have a lot of goats and puppies being picked up during kidding season so we need to pin down schedules ASAP. If we do not hear from you after three attempts to contact you then we will assume you do not want the goats and are forfeiting your Reservation Fee. We will cancel your reservation and put your goats up for sale.

Nigerian Dwarfs versus Mini Nubians - What's the Difference?

Our Nigerian Dwarfs are registered with ADGA and AGS. Our Mini Nubians are registered with MDGA but can be cross registered with TMGR. Doelings and bucklings come with registration applications, which you will fill out and submit to the appropriate registry. Wethers are not registered. Adult goats come with registration certificates.

Nigerian Dwarfs average 75 lbs and 17-23.5” at the withers. They are the size of a medium sized dog.
Mini Nubians average 100 lbs and 23-31” at the withers. They are the size of a large (not giant) dog.
Some individuals are smaller and some are larger. Males are generally a bit larger than females.

We occasionally get questions from people about African Pygmy goats, which we do NOT breed. Pygmies and Nigerians are the same size and both make good pets. Pygmies are meat goats so they are stockier and Nigerians are dairy goats and thus more refined. Pygmies come in only shades of black, grey and brown, whereas Nigerians come in a wide variety of colors and coat patterns. Pygmies only have brown eyes. Nigerians can have brown or blue eyes.

Important Information

Goats do not make good house pets. They are farm animals. They can NOT be housebroken and they are very messy animals. While they are very cute and entertaining they will make a terrible, stinky mess all over your house and get into everything. Please do not place a deposit on our goats if you are not allowed to have them where you live or if you do not have a suitable and safe (from predators) outdoor place to keep them. Reservation fees will not be refunded nor can goats be returned to us if Animal Control comes knocking at your door because you tried to sneak farm animals in the city. Goats are noisy and you will get caught!

All of our baby goats are disbudded. We do not make any exceptions. We do not sell goats with horns for their safety and well being as well as yours, your children's and your other animals'. Wethers are banded free of charge. Does and bucks are microchipped for registration and Scrapie ID purposes and come with registration applications. Adult goats come with registration certificates unless being specifically sold without papers.

We manage our herd as holistically and naturally as possible, therefore we do not vaccinate our herd with the CDT vaccine. Instead we focus on excellent nutrition and proper management to keep our goats healthy. New owners can obtain the CDT vaccine at any feed store if they would like their goats vaccinated. We do not routinely deworm our goats as this can lead to dewormer resistance. We only deworm based on fecal results or clinical signs. We do give age-appropriate Cocciodosis prevention and treatment and we treat immediately with antibiotics and other necessary medications at any sign of Pneumonia or other illnesses.

New owners should be aware that goats are VERY susceptible to stress, including stess from weaning, rapid weather changes and going to a new home. Stress can cause goats to be more susceptible to illness, especially pneumonia and parasites. Stressed goats can get sick very quickly. Learn what to watch for and have a good small ruminant vet and/or medications on hand before bringing home your goats! See our website for more information and resources on goat health. You should find your veterinarian BEFORE you bring home your goats.

We dam raise most of our kids as it's healthier and more natural for them and their dams. We only bottle feed kids that can’t or won’t nurse, rejected kids or some kids from large litters. We handle the kids as much as possible to make them friendly but some goats are naturally shyer than others and with a large herd we simply can't handle all the kids as much as we would like. It’s your responsibility to tame your baby and we ask that you are patient with your new goat when you get them home. If they are shy at first they will come around in time if you are patient and kind to them. We highly encourage positive reinforcement training methods, including Clicker Training.

Please see our Sales Policy Page for more information.
