Prancing Pony Farm Maremma Sheepdogs for Adoption

Did you know that Prancing Pony Farm runs its own rescue?

That's right. Because we are committed to ensuring that no Prancing Pony Maremma ever ends up in a shelter, we step in if their owner can no longer keep them. This means any dog, at any age, for any reason.

It's not often that a Prancing Pony Farm Maremma needs a new home because they are so beloved and valued by their owners. But sometimes life happens, and when it does, we are there for our dogs and their owners without judgment. We want to make an already sad situation as stress-free as possible.

We have two ways of assisting our Maremma clients if they can no longer keep their dogs. First, we can help owners find new homes for their dogs themselves by sharing their plight and sending any interested people directly to the dog owner. If it's a more urgent situation, we will take back the dog and find a new home for them. If we can't find a suitable home, they will stay here as long as needed, sometimes for life. To be clear, we do not give refunds for surrendered dogs because the cost of caring for them until rehoming is too high. And some dogs can't be rehomed at all. But we strongly believe that an ethical breeder is responsible for the dogs they bring into this world, and we live up to that commitment.

In addition to dogs we take back for rehoming, we occasionally have retired dogs or dogs with special needs seeking homes. These could be dogs with special training needs, injuries or conditions requiring extra care, or dogs that need a very specific type of home. Once in a while, we may have a puppy in need of a special home. It's rare, but not all puppies are born "perfect," despite our best efforts. But these puppies are still precious and deserve the best life possible and a loving home like any other puppy.

If you are adopting a dog directly from us, we match the dogs to new homes in much the same way we place our other Maremmas - with our Maremma Application and ongoing conversations. The only difference is that we charge an adoption fee that is much less than our usual Maremma price. But we still provide the same fantastic lifetime client support that we give all our owners. Adopting a Maremma from us allows you to save money while helping a dog in need.

If you adopt directly from the dog owner through our referral, you will make all the arrangements with them and pay whatever fee they set, if any. (Some owners will give a dog away to the right home.) We will forward your info to the dog owner and then you will both decide if their dog would be a good fit for you. We're there to advise and support both of you and you will still be entitled to our lifetime client support as the dog's new owner.

To help match our adoptable dogs with owners, we are starting a database of people in our CRM who might be interested in adopting a dog, either now or in the future. If that might be you, all you need to do is fill out our contact form and let us know you're interrested in adoptable dogs. Once you've done that you'll receive our Maremma application to fill out so we can match you to a dog, should one be available now or in the future.

If we have any currently available dogs, we will tell you about them and work with you to determine if they would be a good match. If we don't have any adoptable dogs that meet your needs and you're not in a big hurry to find a dog, we will keep your name in our database and let you know of any dogs that become available in the future.

And lastly, rest assured that no matter whether you adopt a Maremma from us or buy one, if you ever find yourself in the unfortunate situation of not being able to keep your Prancing Pony Farm Maremma, you and your precious Maremma will be eligible for the Prancing Pony Farm Maremma Rescue, too.

"Above the arch there was a lamp, and beneath it swung a large signboard: a fat white pony reared up on its hind legs. Over the door was painted in white letters:
The Prancing Pony by Barliman Butterbur."
