Goat Hoof Trimming

Goats need their hooves trimmed on a regular basis. How often depends on the goats but usually every couple of months is average. Below are some links and diagrams to help you learn how to trim and what supplies you need.

You can trim with simple hoof trimmers or garden pruners. A horse hoof pick is handy to clean the hooves out. You should also have blood stopper powder on hand in case you cut too close.

We prefer to use a machine called The Hoof Boss to trim our goats’ hooves. It’s an electric hoof trimmer and it does a superior job of trimming as well as rasping and smoothing the hooves. Hooves trimmed with the Hoof Boss are beautiful! It’s easier on the hands and great for large herds
Below are some photos of products and diagrams and before and after pictures of hooves.

So much better!

"Above the arch there was a lamp, and beneath it swung a large signboard: a fat white pony reared up on its hind legs. Over the door was painted in white letters:
The Prancing Pony by Barliman Butterbur."
