So what you get when you buy a Maremma puppy from Prancing Pony Farm is a pup with excellent breeding (including all the essential health testing on both the sire’s and dam’s sides), raised with all of the benefits of Puppy culture (which gives puppies confidence when they encounter new experiences) and exposed to livestock from Day 1. That’s a terrific foundation to build upon...I have been immensely impressed with the puppies I purchased from Kim. They are bonding easily with me and my family, with my GSDs and with the livestock (horses, goats and chickens). They are good-natured, affectionate and VERY smart and even at just 5 months old are showing their guardian traits.

I just purchased our third puppy from Kim, after buying two puppies from her last year to start our farm. Kim met, and continues to meet the criteria of things that are important to me when looking for a breeder...
We love our dogs that came from Prancing Pony Farm. They were among the first members of the family to join the farm, because we knew the importance of having well-bred LGDs to protect our stock. We have not had a single issue with predators on our farm, and we live in an area with coyotes, bears, foxes, wolves, hawks, etc, etc. They guard sheep, pigs, chickens, guinea fowl, and ducks.

The reason I decided to invest in an LGD from Kim is because she sets up her puppies for success as LGDs from the day they are born....I also wanted to vouch for the validity of the puppy lifetime support policy that comes with the sale. Since I’ve brought the puppy home, I have been in daily communication with Kim... I’ve received advice on integrating the pup with my resident LGD, fencing, introducing her to the goats, worming, vaccination, etc...Having purchased my first LGD pup from an oopsie litter from a hobby farm, and now the second pup from Kim, I can see for myself what a difference a well bred, well started pup makes. Kim’s puppies aren’t cheap, but they are such a worthwhile investment!

Read the story of Randy's beautiful dog, Jess (from our 2019 litter), an Incredible LGD, whose life was cut tragically short by canine bloat.

Also a report in on how they are doing. They are doing GREAT! Lola has been a delight and as little as she is, holds her own. She is a gentle dog but seems to have an inner toughness and independence. She seemed to know exactly the proper way to act around the goats (of course, even the babies are bigger than she is!) She doesn't get fazed by anything and hasnt let the llamas, emus or anything else to disturb her like they did Marco. Our biggest challenge is not treating her like a baby and treating her like the guard do that she is to grow up to be. Of course, the cross country trip, enhanced that bonding. But Lola, as much as she loves attention' has not let it detract what she was born to be. She is quite happy in the barn with the goats.

Marco is doing super superb. Immediately, when we got Lola, Marco's behavior around the baby goats improved 100%. We have them both out with the goats all day. We still keep them out of the goat part of the barn at night, but that is just from abundance of caution. Marco shows signs of great intelligence and is easily trained. He still shows his puppy enthusuasian but you can tell his brain is figuring it all out. You know from our talks, that I was concerned about his emu and llama reaction, but he has gotten used to them. He does bark at things that have no need to be barked ot, but he will figure it out. HE has a VERY deep voice. It gets MY attention!

Neither one seems to be bothered by thunderstorms, and yesterday when one rolled through, the dogs and goats were all clumped in the barn together. Goats are never bothered by them (besides not wanting to get wet) so they must be taking their cues from them.

Here is a picture of them with Rosie, their mentor and the goats. You can't tell in this picture, but Marco is getting HUGE! I haven't raised these dogs from puppyhood before so the rate of his growth has astounded me. Lola is growing too but she seems ot be on the slower path.

I probably have gone on too long about them. I love these dogs and they are developing extremely well. I credit you providing such good dogs, and Cindy guiding me through Marco's early days. Thank you!

All of that said, honestly I really like your training program over many other breeders, and
the extra care you put into your facilities like a whelping house with incubators, and how
closely you are monitoring whelping. Your extensive question survey, and web site are
well laid out. I can see how much you care about what you are doing with your honesty
and transparency. The mental aptitude and willingness to work of your hand reared
puppies would be a better fit for us overall. Which is why we are going with Orange
shoulder puppy. He really takes the cake for desired behavior and adequate puppy
training. For our family and our business he is the best fit. We are happy to wait a bit for a
partner for Orange Shoulder puppy from Gianna X Pax, so please add us to the wait list
for a female from that litter.

Hello Kim,
We are still hauling boxes, but I just wanted to check in with you for 5 min. He is SO good! My children are enchanted by him and my cats are getting along well with him right away. He is such a snuggley marshmallow, and he takes the cutest naps. My whole family loves him, my dad was delighted to meet him. Paul is so pleased to have a dog his size, he is quite smug about it. Great on a leash straight out of the gate followed me without issue, hardly had to ask, already watching over everyone, he is going to be a great work partner. I can’t wait to get him going with some livestock. He is everything we wanted and so much more than we expected. Very impressive. I will check in again soon!
Thank you he is so awesome!

Kim, here is the review. Feel free to give anyone our contact info if they ask for a recommendation....
We purchased two puppies from Kim at Prancing Pony Farms. They are both about a year old now. Kim was patient, supportive, knowledgeable, and responsive to all of our questions before we got the dogs and continues to be as we have reached out with more questions as things have came up. We could tell that she cares about her dogs. We liked the fact she was honest and up front with us about Artemis being on the smaller side as a puppy and not knowing how big she would get, wanting to keep Pan a little longer to make sure he was a good fit for us, was willing to take Pan back from a previous owner, and wanted to make sure Pan and Artemis would work well together. The dogs have been much more than we ever expected and seem to love their jobs. We are extremely happy with the dogs and highly recommend Prancing Pony Farms.

My mother-in-law hangs out with her & the chickens for a few hours every day so I think she'll be good. Thank you, that totally makes sense. Yes she's great with the chickens. No issues at all. One great story my MIL tells, one day she had some ham & eggs scraps from breakfast & went out to give it to Scout & the chickens. Scout started eating some & all the chickens came running & swarmed around it. Scout backed up & let the chickens have it, just watched them eat it. My MIL said you could tell Scout *really* wanted the food but still let the chickens have it. She's a great dog, a real sweetheart
