Maremma Sheepdog Stud Service Info

We get occasional inquiries about using our breeding males for stud service to outside females. While this isn't something we actively pursue we do sometimes agree to offer this service, if we feel doing so is in the best interest of the breed and would be an asset to our breeding program. We would want to have extensive conversations with anyone who's requesting this service to determine if their female is a good candidate and that their goals for breeding their dog and using one of our males is in line with our values as they pertain to breeding Maremma Sheepdogs. We've made this page as a starting point in that conversation. Below you'll find a list of requirements as well as a questionnaire to get us started with finding out if your female would be a good match for our boys. Info on our boys can be found on their individual pages, including their photos, pedigrees and PennHip scores.

All candidate females must be registered with the Maremma Sheepdog Club of America and owners must be members in good standing with the MSCA. Code of Ethics breeders are preferred. Females must meet The COE standards for breeding, to include, at a minimum, PennHip or OFA screening for hip dysplasia. We will need a copy of your bitch's test results and registration/pedigree before any breeding arrangements can be made. Proof of up to date vaccinations from a veterinarian is required, as well as a clean fecal exam and brucellosis test within 30 days of the anticipated breeding date. We reserve the right to refuse service to any female that we feel doesn't meet our criteria for any reason.

Our stud fee is $3000 or pick of the litter, our choice. If it's to be a stud fee it will be paid when you bring your female for breeding. If it's a pick puppy the puppy will be picked up by us before the litter can be registered and then the appropriate registration paperwork will be forwarded to us. There will also be a $20 a day board fee if the female needs to stay here, payable when you pick her up. Bitch owners are responsible for bringing their bitch to us and for all veterinary and other expenses related to the litter.

A Stud Service contract will be required, to include that PPF can approve the price charged for puppies sold, as well as any potential breeding homes. This is to protect the integrity of our own breeding program and to prevent people from using our males to undercut our prices. If any or the terms aren't met or fees aren't paid we rester the right to refuse to allow the litter to be registered.
